Oscar Dresses 2016

How is it Monday already? This weekend went unbelievably fast. Game night was quite a success. After pizza, wine, girl talk, 2 rounds of Balderdash and some Cards Against Humanity it we suddenly realize it was 2am and time for bed.  Saturday was filled with errands and Fuller House mini marathon that rolled into a Michael Pollan's Cooked marathon. Both series were definitely entertaining. Fuller House was fun, but it was painful getting through the cheesiness of the first 5 or so episodes. After becoming an adult and realizing what Bob Sagat's real-life persona was, I just cannot take him seriously as Danny Tanner any more.  Sunday was church ->cooking ->gym -> OSCARS! I made a killer quinoa stir fry to eat this week and delicious truffle popcorn to bring to the Oscar party I was going to.

Now  on to the important things. THE DRESSES! I realize lots of people were irritated by this comment, but I would like to shout out to Chris Rock for reinforcing my point from Friday.

Overall there was no one who did horribly in my opinion, but I did like the Golden Globes comparatively better this year.

It's Oscar Weekend!

We made it to Friday!! I'm pretty excited for this weekend for several reasons: 1) Not traveling!! 2) It's the weekend 3) It's supposed to be 60 and 4) Its the OSCARS!! Truth be told I've only seen a couple of the films (loved The Big Short),but I'm more excited to see the dresses. If the Golden Globes were any sign of what the Oscars are going to be in terms of fashion it will be amazing.

It's actually starting to bug me that people have their pants in a bunch about women being asked what they're wearing. I actually want to know. I do think that we should put some focus on the work they've done, but I also feel like the whole issue was created out of a good place. Not some weird sexist agenda. The gowns are so gorgeous and pieces of work (some even work BY women), they're interesting and exciting and people want to know what they're about. A tuxedo just doesn't do the same thing for me. Considering the red carpet interviews are less than a minute usually, there are 2 problems. There is nothing to talk to the men about other than the reason they're there (see above comment about tuxes) and when you are talking to an amazingly dressed woman a minute barely even begins to cover the work that went into making her so beautiful. They simply run out of time to talk about their work. Some people need to chill out. Okay. vent over.

I also cannot wait to sleep in tomorrow, and tonight I'm having some girlfriends over for wine, Cards Against Humanity and Fuller House! #yogapants Hope you have a relaxing weekend ahead of you!

Award season is in full swing and I have to say that overall I am loving the red carpet trends this year! Most dresses seem to be very sleek and smooth. Lots of clean line lines and subtle details, being creative with color, cut outs (tastefully!) and small details. My idea of elegance in every stitch! I loved almost ev.ery.thing and cannot wait to see what the, more formal, Oscar carpet brings us.

Pantone just announced their 2016 color{s} of the year to be the dusty pink, Rose Quartz and soothing blue, Serenity.

I love pastels...especially in winter. I have been rocking my white jeans with cozy ivory and blue spring sweaters well past Labor Day. Add a little sparkle and they make the understated tones perfect for popping Holiday Parties. I'm obsessed with these 2 Miu Miu numbers. Top them off with a long, classic camel {or, even better, ivory} wool coat and you're ready to celebrate the end of 2015.

Wedding Wednesday

I've been feeling a bit nostalgic for San Francisco lately. When I saw this beautiful wedding at the James Flood Mansion (on my short list!), it took be right back. I love the traditional architecture contrasted with the sleek black accents. Also, there is just something perfect about her dress!

Remember that Oscar De La Renta Dress?

When I opened my closet the other day and realized I have 2 problems: Pink and Blue & White Stripes. Although, I have so many already I absolutely fell in love with this number when I saw it on MrsCocoWyse. Even better, it's currently on final sale at Lulus for $27!!!

I wore it to my lovely E's going away party this past weekend. It was so elegant and comfortable!

...made me feel like I was walking around in this Oscar dress from a few years back.

Oscar's Night

Last night's Met Gala was truly Oscar De La Renta's night. Every gown I saw that created an instant urge to purchase (you know, for like wearing to to grocery store and stuff) I would scroll to the bottom of the picture and the designer was Oscar De La Renta.   His gowns have a sleek, elegant look with a classic flare of drama. Perfect for an event like the Met Gala....or Safeway.

I bought my first Sail to Sable dress about a month ago and am officially obsessed. I took it on a trip down to Palm Springs. The classic tunic cut is so elegant, flattering and easy to dress up or down. I bought the Libby (on sale now!) which was silk and perfect for the hot desert evenings.

I bring this up 1) because they just had a beautiful feature in April's Matchbook Magazine (PS I want to get Jennifer to come decorate my house!) and 2) because they're having a sale on their resort collection. Just in time for summer vacations or late spring getaways!

 I love the 'Fabulous Fringe' sleeveless, in this fun bright yellow!

Snaps for the Gap! {finally}

The Gap has always been a good stand-by for your classic t-shirt and jeans. In high school (so 10ish years ago) I shopped there a little more often for tops and sweaters. Since then, however, I think their main collection fell off the....runway? a little bit. We all remember that multicolored. horizontal striped crew neck sweater from the 2007 holiday collection. All I remember after that is a series of different types of white button ups, that also came in black. Maybe they amped up their designs or maybe it's just because 'classic' is back in style, but I absolutely LOVE Gap's fall collection (and apparently stripes).

The Military Button Academy Blazer

The bright blue (and I swear I saw it in red in the store) color of the Military Button Academy Blazer adds a little fun to a classic shape! Paired with a Green Gingham button up or just a classic white one it would look clean, crisp and together!

The Nautical Stripe has been something I'm, personally struggling with. It looks absolutely adorable on other people, but for some reason every time I try on a shirt or a dress all I can think of is prison. I may have just gotten over that fear with the  Nautical Shift Dress! It looks super cute with a cognac belt and jean jacket. Perfect for the (warmer than normal) San Francisco falls!
